UEFA Euro 2012 Final: Spain overpowers Italy

Spain secured the title with a stunning 4-0 victory over Italy in the UEFA Euro 2012 Final in Kyiv.

Goals from David Silva, Jordi Alba, Fernando Torres, and Juan Mata gave Spain their third successive major international tournament victory, making them the first side to achieve this feat.

Spain dominated the match from the outset, controlling possession and creating numerous chances. Silva opened the scoring in the 14th minute, with Alba doubling the lead just before half-time.

Torres added a third in the 84th minute, before Mata completed the scoring in the 88th minute. Italy never looked like getting back into the game, as Spain's defence held firm and their midfield controlled the tempo.

The victory was a fitting end to a successful tournament for Spain, who have now won the European Championship three times and the World Cup once in the past six years.

Italy, meanwhile, will be disappointed to have lost the final so heavily, but they can take solace in the fact that they reached the final four of a major tournament for the first time since 2006.
